Texas wants the world to know that it is “Film Friendly”. The Texas Film Commission created the “Film Friendly Texas” program to put an emphasis on working with Texas’ rural communities. Film Friendly Texas provides training and ongoing guidance for communities on how they attract film productions and boost economic development in their counties and communities. The Texas Film Friendly Program trains community leaders about the production process and how to effectively facilitate filming requests. Certified communities attended a training workshop and have passed a filming policy approved by the Texas Film Commission office.
The Commission provides regular seminars on how rural communities can effectively work with on-location filming, and helps them to reach out and market their resources to film, television, commercial and still photo projects that can help bring some new dollars into local businesses.
“When Hollywood Comes to Town” Seminars
In the past, the Texas Film commission regularly puts on a seminar called “When Hollywood comes to Town” that helps local governments better understand the movie business and how it can help their communities. Topics include:
**An Overview of the Texas film/television production industry
**How Film Locations Are Chosen
**Developing a Photo Location Package
**Creating Effective Film Guidelines.
**Expediting film inquiries
**Use of public property for filming locations
**Location agreements, production insurance and neighbor notifications
Film and TV Incentive Programs in Texas
This program is just one of the many that Texas has used to become one of the top locations for television, film and even video game productions. The Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program (TMIIIP), and the Media Production Development Zone Act (MPDZA) are a couple other programs designed to bring productions – and production companies – into the state outside of Houston, Dallas, and Austin.
