marlyand-film-tax-incentive-programWith its proximity to the nation’s capital and a diverse range of locations, Maryland consistently hosts political narrative productions – most notably House of Cards and The Wire.

The Maryland film tax credit ranges from 25% to 27%, the higher rate available for television series. Production must spend at least $500k in Maryland and must film in state for at least 50% of principal photography. Credit on payroll costs is limited to employees who earn $500k or less for all wages earned in or out of state. Typical production costs are qualified including service and purchases incurred in state, property leasing and travel into the state. Applications are required to be submitted before the start of principal photography in the state. Productions are not subject to a project cap, however, the total annual funding for the program is
$5 million.
