Minnesota Film Incentive Program

minnesota-film-tax-incentive-highlightsMinnesota usually hosts smaller productions with an emphasis on the unique locations provided by the state. The incentive program consists of a cash rebate rather than a tax incentive.

The Minnesota film tax credit ranges from 20% to 25%, increasing with qualified Minnesota spending with a minimum of $100k.  Productions must utilize Minnesota vendors for qualifying costs.  Nonresident above-the-line talent, director and producer payments are limited to $100k per person eligible for the rebate.

The rebate program has no project cap and no sunset date.  Applications are required to be submitted 3-6 months before the start of principal photography in the state.  Additionally, the state provides a post-production credit for 20-25% based on a minimum spend of $50k to $200k, respectively.
