Georgia Adds Film & TV Production for High Demand Career Initiative (HDCI)

In an effort to continue to grow the burgeoning film and television production industry in Georgia, Gov. Deal chose to focus the High Demand Career Initiative (HDCI) on the film and digital entertainment industry.

The goal of this program is to help identify specific needs of businesses that are producing film, television and digital entertainment projects. According to an announcement, these skilled positions “require training and special certifications that Georgia is prepared to cultivate and implement through a collective effort between the Georgia Department Economic Development, the University System of Georgia, the Technical College System of Georgia and key leaders in the entertainment industries in Georgia.”

In 2104, the state was host to as many as 26 film and television shows—from scripted dramas, such as The Walking Dead, to major feature films, such as Insurgent.  According to a June 2014 OpEd in the the Altanata Business Journal, Georgia has”a proactive legislature and Governor who supports the Georgia Entertainment Industry Investment Act, a tax credit incentive for qualified Georgia-lensed projects” The state has worked on creating the infrastructureand features a temperate climate with diverse topography. For travelling production companies, there are “hotels to accommodate every budget and the ease of access with the world’s busiest airport.”
